SAPLA Diversity Law Symposium

The Southern Association of Prelaw Advisors (SAPLA) and the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) will host its Virtual Diversity Law Symposium on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023. This is an excellent opportunity to hear and speak to diverse professionals within the legal community. The symposium will be catered to prospective law students that have an interest in becoming a valued member in the legal community.

Diversity in the legal profession connects citizens with lawyers who share their life experiences and perspectives.  Race or ethnicity, LGBTQ status, age, gender, geographic region, first-generation, socioeconomic status, educational background, nationality, and disability are just some of the characteristics that shape law school classes and contribute to a diverse and inclusive legal profession.

The upcoming Diversity Symposium will include the following:

• 6:00 PM EST A Day in the Life of a Lawyer– This session will provide an in-depth look at the importance of diversity in the legal profession. Practicing attorneys will share their stories while providing advice on how to overcome challenges, instill a strong work ethic, and ultimately become successful in the field.

• 6:40 PM EST: Admissions 101 – Law school admissions professionals will share insight on the admissions process and how to make your application more competitive and diverse. Topics will include personal and diversity statements, resume, letters of recommendation and more.

• 7:20 PM EST: Financing Your Legal Education – For most incoming students, law school isn’t free. This session will provide attendees an opportunity to interact with financial aid advisors within the law school community. These advisors will share tips and resources to obtain financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
